Printer Cartridges for every type of printer

The ink cartridge is a replaceable component within the printer. Obviously it holds the ink but some cartridges are a bit more than that and also contain the print head. The cheaper ink jet printers contain two cartridges, one is black the other has the colors (cyan, magenta and yellow). Mid range printers usually have four cartridges; black and a separate one for each of the colors. The advantage of these is that you can replace just the one color cartridge when that color runs out instead of the whole three (as in the tricolor cartridge). More expensive printers may have many more cartridges which provide added benefits in color quality and often lasting qualities with photographic work.

Types of Cartridges

Depending on the printer type the print head will either be a thermal type or a piezoelectric and each requires a specific type of ink for that printer. All printer suppliers produce their own type of ink cartridges. Cartridges for different printers may be incompatible - either physically or electrically, so make sure you have the correct supplies or you may have to throw out the printer. Since replacement cartridges from the original manufacturer of the printer are often expensive, some other manufacturers produce "compatible" cartridges as inexpensive alternatives. These cartridges sometimes have more ink than the original OEM branded ink cartridges and can produce the same quality. Some suppliers also provide inks that you can use to top up or refill your existing cartridges. again these can be very good for cost saving but you take the risk with ink quality and you will also void any warranty on the printer if you choose to use anything other than the branded inks.
