Notebook Computers

There are many different variables you need to be aware of when buying a notebook computer, and if you aren’t careful you might end up buying something that doesn’t completely suit your needs. A notebook computer is a small mobile computer, typically weighing 2 to 15 pounds (0.91 to 6.8 kg), although older laptops may weigh much more. Most applications these days require a computer with a dual core processor and 1gb of memory (RAM) – including Windows Vista. However, if you only want a notebook for word processing or checking email then a more basic model should be fine. You shouldn't get a model with a hard drive smaller than 60gb, because you can't add extra hard drives easily due to the limited space inside the case of a laptop.

If vyou prefer the smaller laptops then you need to look at our offerings in Mini Laptops and Netbooks.

Security

Laptops are generally prized targets of theft, and theft of laptops can lead to more serious problems such as identity theft from stolen credit card numbers.[8] Most laptops have a Kensington security slot to chain the computer to a desk with a third party security cable. In addition to this, modern operating systems and software may have disk encryption functionality that renders the data on the laptop's hard drive unreadable without a key.

Fortunately most of the Mini Laptops and Netbooks are so small that they can readily be stored in hand luggage without being so obvious. The idea here is that if you need to travel with the laptop then look very closely at the opportunities offered by both the Mini Laptop and the Netbook systems.
