Mini laptop computers and similar products have undergone a huge increase in sales as there relative costs have come down. Up to 10% of laptop sales worldwide are now mini computers, which includes descriptions like Netbook, Internet Tablet, Mini Laptop and Ultra Portable PC.

Selecting the correct Mini Computer for your use as a student, traveller or buniness operator is difficult mainly because of the huge range of systems available. Basically if you can select a mini laptop that will do the job you want it to then regardless of price (or what others say they can do) then you have made the right choice. So begin by carefully considering what you need the mini laptop to do, then when you look at the choices you can eliminate all those that do not perform to your requirements and from those that remain make an objective choice.

Do not try and buy a cheap mini laptop witrh the hope that you can add hardware or features later, make sure it will do what you want now. For instance can it connect to your existing printer or network, will it be able to use the peripherals that you want to (like headphones or microphone), can it be connected to a larger monitor, and so on.

Netbooks

Netbooks are really just another term for mini computers that has been coined by a couple of manufacturers to encourage the purchase of their brands. Asus was the first real user of this name with its fantastic Asus Eee netbook and then others like Dell have tried to piggy back on that immediate success. The Asus success was driven by a range of factors including price, ultra portability, weight (under 1 kg), product range, and appeal to the target market. Since the launch of the Asus Eee range every other manufacturer has been in catch up mode.
