Computer hardware and accessories

Computer equipment, including all hardware and accessories for desktop, server systems. Computer hardware is the physical part of a computer as distinguished from the computer software that runs the programs. The hardware of a computer is rarely altered (unless upgrading),whereas software programmes are regularly added, deleted or updated, as is the data. Personal computers, the computer hardware familiar to most people, form only a small minority of computers (about 0.2% of all new computers produced in 2003). Most computers (desktops and laptops) consist of a case that has things like a motherboard, CPU (central processing unit), RAM (random access memory), cooling fan, power supply, a variety or ports to allow data input and output, storage (hard drive, DVD or CD ROM, ZIP drive, Floppy disk drive), video display controller, internal storage (hard drive), sound card, and maybe a few other less critical components. Attached to this computer case are a range of equally important accessories to enable you to use it. The include a monitor, keyboard, mouse, audio and video input devices (USB or firewire), and printers or projectors.

Computer systems, parts and components for desktop and laptops.

Looking for a cheap computer or computer accessories can be time consuming and expensive so it is important to understand your needs and what hardware is required to provide for that set of tasks. Many computer hardware stores are run by efficient sales people that do not fully understand what computer components are or how they impact upon each other so it is always best to get advice from a computer consultant prior to investing your hard earned money on your next computer system. Simply deciding whether you need a laptop or desktop system is just the start. You also need to look at processor speed, memory capability and storage sizes. No matter how powerful the CPU is, or how much RAM memory you have under the bonnet, the combined effect of the full complement of accessories and installed programmes has a major impact on the desktop computers performance.
